I am trying to delete old contacts on Iphone 5 ver. 8.4 and not able to delete any contacts

Every new contact and all my old contacts cannot be deleted because they are linked in someway I have not been able to disable to be able to delete them.
I am very frustrated about the time me & my wife have tried to find a solution to.

Here you go:

For a single contact, select the contact, press Edit, and then scroll to the bottom and press Delete Contact.
