Verizon Visual Voice Mail on iOS6

I just switched to the iPhone 5 from Blackberry, where I was paying $3.99 a month for Visual Voice Mail. I see that iOS6 has a similar product. Can anyone tell me if Visual Voice Mail is necessary when being on iOS6?

It is also your only choice for free if you use the native Visual Voice Mail provided by Verizon for free on iPhone. Enjoy the freebie

It's free on for iPhones... Unless Verizon is really trying to squeeze every cent out of you... AT&T and sprint have it for free
