Tethered Vs Untethered

Ok here the question I am using a tethered jailbreak via Redsn0w on my iP4. If and when an unthered is released do I have to restore my phone to get the untethered JB. Or can I follow the steps provided and when released, download the file and JB again over the Redsn0w JB?

if i have been reading correctly the untethered redsn0w, when and if there will be one without blobs saved, will make the transition easily

any other version you will have to start over. this may sound like a pain in the ass but if you have access to your system files you can backup your custom files/bundles to help with everything. i know most people will use programs to backup all their jailbreak apps and tweaks but i do it manually by taking screenshots or simply writing them down before restoring

Backing up isn't an issue and my blobs are saved I was just wondering if I had to restore to clear the tethered jailbreak before I could do an untethered jailbreak when one comes available.
