very frustrating. i know a lot of people who jailbreak for this reason alone

does Lord Jobs really think people are happy with the Tri-tone, Chime, Glass, Horn, Bell & Electronic tones..

i wonder which sms tone he uses?

This is why I think we, the online community, should keep making noise about this until there is a "Customization/Notification' app.

Apple has addressed two of the biggest complaints against the iPhone with iOS4: Multi-tasking and battery life.

Customization (themes etc.) and notifications (BB was great for this) are very limited on the iPhone when compared to Android, BB and Web OS.

I agree, it would be nice to be able to change your SMS tone!!
But would complaining really help and if so, were would it be best directed?

The best way is (if you're jailbroken) is to buy ToneFXs and then use all the sounds you want thru that app.

Partially true. iTunes 10 has apparently taken away this function.

If you still have an older version of iTunes you're good to go.
Keep in mind, even the older version of iTunes only allowed you to make ringtones from PAID iTunes downloads, NOT from your own music! The way I posted earlier allows you to make a ringtone from ANY music file.
