Messages not synching with new iPhone 6

I just upgraded to the iPhone 6 from my old 5 and now my text messages aren't synching correctly between iPad and phone. I've made sure iMessage is correctly set up between the two devices, I've done hard boots on both and cannot think of what else to do.

Turn off/log out of iMessage on all devices you're using on your AppleID reboot... Then sign in to iMessage...
