How do I view the orignal text message after I sent a reply?

I have a new IPhone 5S & don't know how to view the original message because I thanked the person for the message before I wrote the information down.

The original message from the person? Should be available as a string of all your messages back and forth between you and that person, in the Messages app. You'll see a green icon with a chat bubble, THAT is it, just open it up and a list of all your texts should be in there.
