i just got a macbook air for christmas and i set up my yahoo mail on it. it is pulling up messages from 2006 and i want to delete them. after i delete a message it keeps showing back up. and the number of messages in my inbox does not or will not change.

You will have to delete them from the yahoo side. It's deleting off device not the server. Sign onto yahoo email online and delete there
