Well Apple can't replace a carrier locked phone with a unlocked phone. They'll give you what you had before.
As far as your carrier not unlocking it that a issue you must take up with them.

Yep! And apparently, there is not much I can do about that.
They tell me to go to Apple, because it is "their" phone and Apple tells me to go to my carrier -_-

You can buy a unlocked iPhone from Apple if you choose at the full price. But to my knowledge Apple can't unlock a locked phone.

Yeah this is why they told me to go to my carrier, for that.

I've heard of 3rd party unlocking services but don't know anything about them. Hopefully someone will chime in on this.
