This thread would have been started sooner rather than later by someone so I figured I would kick it off. Which do you prefer, matte or shine?

    Matte - less fingerprint smudges...

I have to go with matte too. I would think it would help hide scratches too.

The matte looks nicer, plus less scratches, more grip, etc. etc.

I like the shine of the 3G, but I would probably prefer matte since it will give you more gripe and show less scratches.

I was thinking, some of the matte cases currently out for the 3G scratch really easily... hopefully this will not be the case for this.

Matte. I think the fingerprints on shiny black iPhones make it look dirty... all the time.

matte finish i guess, but mine is always in a case. so it doesn't really matter either way

I like the matte finish a lot for the same reasons everyone above me stated. I keep a case on my iPhone so no one really gets to see the shine. With the matte finish I might consider leaving the case off.

All nice and shiny, although I keep my device in a Incase Slider.

See I don't mind the current setup either, now if I had a black iPhone it would be a different story as the white does not show fingerprints that much.

Ever held a bar of wet soap in your hand and squeezed, only to have it squirt out of your hand....yeah, that's how some gloss painted phones react if you get some oil or water on them. I had to put a ZAAG skin on my Curve just to keep it from falling out of my hand on occasion.

I've had the Treo 750 and the Tilt from AT&T, both with the matte paints on them and I would have to say it is great. Not just for the grip, but also for the lack of fingerprints, and sometimes glare.

Next time, go white! Main reason I did not buy a black one.

I had a white one. Then got a black. I like the look of the black better.

I was complete opposite, to each their own.

The g/f has a white one, and I dunno, just think the black looks better.

I put cases on mine anyways, so I guess color is no matter. I have a green Solo FX on it now, so technically, I have a green iPhone

    Hello all:

I really like the function and grip of the matte finish, however, I LOVE the shine. I will use Bodyguardz or similar cover and enjoy both the shine and some additional grip.

Once that starts to wear, I will then switch to the InCase matte finish slider.

Yeah, black fits the look of all my electronics. Aluminum MacBook with the black trim, black monitor, black TV, black PC, black desk, and black iPhone.

I only like the idea of matte on the black iPhone. They wouldn't do that to the white one would they? Like many others have mentioned, I like the white one how it is because it doesn't show any fingerprints. It's funny, when I first saw the two pictures of the black and white when they were announced, I though the white one was hideous. Then it slowly became "ok" to me the more I looked at it. When I stepped into line, I was planning to get a black one, but then an employee came out and let us all breifly check out a black one she was holding. I saw all the fingerprints and instantly changed my mind for the white one.

Matte finish by far. Never liked the shiny casings or backs of the iPods all the way back to my first 3rd gen iPod. Yes it looks good when you take it out of the box, but after about a week it looks like crap all scratched up.

I'd really prefer the matte look with a soft touch finish, like the Tmobile Dash or several other phones makes it so much easier to grip and feels good in the hand.

matte would definitely keep it looking nice. Less smudges and scratches as everyone has already pointed out

I did the same... I originally got the white one, then sold it when the Bold came around and when I recently purchased a new one, I got the black. My reasoning was due to the cracks on the white one.

The black isn't bad, but I like the white better.
