My emails in my inbox have disappeared, how can I get them back?

My emails appear on my MacBook but not on our iPhones. They disappeared yesterday. How can we get them back?

What has fixed most problems for me is deleting the problematic account on my phone and then re-adding it. You can do this in settings. If you say which version of iOS you are using, I can walk you through the process in more detail (if that would be helpful).
