Why does my iPhone 5 show crescent moon (do not disturb) symbol periodically without activation

Crescent moon shows up periodically on my iPhone 5 without activation.i know about (do not disturb)
My phone does it on its own

Are you inadvertently touching the Do Not Disturb icon in the Control Center?
How is Do Not Disturb set in Settings? Manual? Scheduled?

Do Not Disturb may have been set to scheduled mode.

Open:
Settings > Do Not Disturb
See if the "scheduled" section is toggled on. This feature causes Do Not Disturb to automatically turn on and off at certain times of the day.
