Why aren't I getting audible text notifications on my iPhone 4?

I am having trouble with my iPhone 4 regarding audible text notifications

Even when leaving the texting app running, I do not get any audible sounds (and it is only occuring with the texting app)

Reboot the device... if it continues - go into settings and assign a different sound for text notifications... if that sound works, switch it back to the desired sound... see if that works...
