When I open the iphone6s App,one of my friend's contacts is listed at the top.

How do I eliminate it and put my name at the top. I am having much difficulty accessing my emails from Optimum. Thank you for all your help.

Hi, welcome to iMore.
Please go to Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars > My Info and select your name from the contact list.
This will replace your friends info with yours.
