What's in a name?

Well we all know by now that apple leaves the suffix for the feature the generation the iPhone has that seperates it from the older models. There's the 3G and 3GS.

There hasn't been any real speculation about whay the newest model will have. Only thing that's sorta smart for them to do by now is add HD but like some people said, apple likes to seperate it self from other companies.

Right now I say iPhone HD but i haven't seen anything solid about a HD iPhone.

They might add HD but that probably won't be the suffix

I honestly think they'll be going with iPhone HD.
But I could totally see Jobs walking on stage and saying, "and here's the new iPhone 4".
Apple is innovative about everything else, but their product names...

I can see 'iPhone HD' as a really good guess at a name. But I can also see Apple going along with something like 'iPhone 4'. Then bring along 'iPhone 4G' next year.

I also think the OS 4.0 invitation image is a massive hint towards this. ;-)

Has anyone taken into account that they may actually release the new iPhone on multiple U.S. carriers? If it weren't for the small detail of the rest of the world, I would say they could call it the:

iPhone 3GVZ (Verizon)
iPhone 3GSP (Sprint)
iPhone 3GTM (T-Mobile)
iPhone 3GAT (AT&T)

OR

just iPhone, because the long-winded endings are getting ridiculous...


OR EVEN BETTER!!!!!

iPhone 4G (Sprint)
iPhone HD (everyone else)


This way, they all sound cool while still giving a 4G version to Sprint to rival the HTC Evo 4G (what I'm replacing my abysmal Palm Pre with if iPhone doesn't come to Sprint in some form)

iPhone 4HD (because of its display and its generation)
iPhone 4 (because it's a 4th generation and it has 4.0 OS)

iPhone, nothing else. Everyone knows what 3G is at this point, 4G isn't out. Going back to just plain iPhone. Adding the HD at the end seems kind of corny and unApple.

So you think they'll call the 3GS iPhone 3GS and the 4th gen just iPhone????
