What do you think of the rumor that the iPhone 8 will lack Touch ID?

Sony places theirs on the side of their phones, so I suspect  will do the same instead of on the back, if they do go with the change. I don't understand all the rage with a bezel-less phone though.

I agree with you to some degree. A completely bezel-less screen will bring a lot of complication and may not be very practical. It will also mean having curved corners for the screen and possibly cut outs for the speaker, microphone and front facing camera.

However, Apple's phone have huge bezels now, which means iPhones are much larger than their competitors for the same size of screen. I hope that they do somewhat reduce the size of the bezel.
