using facetime

I have just purchased an iPad mini.
I have a facetime ID.
I am unable to make facetime calls to my contacts and they are unable to facetime me. Does anybody out there how I can sort this out?

Go into the Settings-FaceTime and make sure your iPad is actually signed in to FaceTime and your "Can be reached at" is set properly.
