Texting through exchange and problems with Contacts

When texting, how can I get exchange to pull up a Contacts cell phone number instead of the email address?
Here lately on my iPhone 7 S and my iPad Pro when I try to text, and exchange is my default contact list, exchange tries to pull up a clients, or Contacts email address instead of their cell phone number. This is really time-consuming when trying to type a contacts name into a blank text Field and exchange contact list always comes up with the email address. I don’t want to text of the email address, I want to text them through their cell phone.

That may be more of something you should bring up with Microsoft Support, in my opinion. Still, hopefully someone who can answer your question will reply soon.
