No notifications on lock screen

Hi, iam new to iOS and I have recently bought iPhone 7. Iam not getting any type of notifications (badge,banner,lock screen) from Facebook,twitter &many other apps until unless I keep them running in the background. Do I have to turn on the " background app refresh" or do I have to leave them running in the background to get the notifications. Please help.

Welcome to iMore! You'll want to go to Settings > Notifications > [app name], and make sure you have notifications enabled. There may also be Settings within the individual apps that control what notifications you receive.

Thanks......I have tried all the notifications settings including those which are within the apps but still the problem persist.
