Gonna have to disagree. With BAR turned off, Facebook, IG and Google consume much less battery. It makes a huge difference in battery life. It must change something about how they behave.

You're talking about a recent issue with iOS 17 and iPhone 15. I keep Background App Refresh on for all my apps on my 14 Pro Max, and don't have those heating issues. Don't recall how that affects battery life, just that it heats up the phones.
And those apps run in the background regardless of whether BAR is on or not.
