New iTunes ok for jailbreakers?

I just re-read the archives and cannot locate the info on the new itunes. I'm running a jailboken 2G with firmware 2.1. Not quite ready to bother with the upgrade to 2.2 and the hassle of reinstalling a lot of apps. Can I allow iTunes to upgrade or do I need to stay with the version on which I upgraded to 2.1?
