no wi-fi connection

1. i called iphone tech support regarding my wi-fi not connecting to the network. they said that i cant use wi-fi without the data plan from AT&T. Is this true?
2. i just JB my iphone with redsnow and now want to unlock with ultrasn0w.
is there other way to get the ultrasn0w besides cydia? because i cant connect to my Wi-Fi.

#1 isnt true at all, you can remove the sim and use the iphone as an ipod touch. about it not connecting to your network, have you tried resetting your modem and router? just unplug the both of them for a minute and try that. also, try rebooting your iphone as well.
