Is it possible to not erase some files on my Mac while syncing them to iCloud?

Hello,
I installed iCloud to backup all my files online and make space in my MacBook. But there are some files I would like to keep physically in my computer and sincronize them to iCloud but not erase them from the Mac.
Because I don’t always want to redownload the file to open it.

Is it possible to do that?

Optimizing storage on the MacBook will keep commonly used files on the computer but put the files not used as much will be loaded to iCloud. You can't put specific files only on the computer unless you put them in a different folder, IIRC it's just documents and desktop that go on iCloud, but it won't back up unfortunately.
