iPhone 3g constantly restarting when trying to transfer purchases?

Can anybody help me? I've built a new computer and installed iTunes for the first time this morning. Now im trying to transfer the purchases from my iPhone 3g to iTunes so I can add more apps and stuff without it deleting everything from my phone every time i sync. It begins, the progress bar opens and shows the apps being copied over, but after a minute and a half the phone restarts itself, and the copying stops. This happens every time i try. Once the phone loads, it is no longer being detected in itunes until I unplug and replug the cable. Then start again. It seems to save the progress its made so far, but incredibly frustrating to get only 90 seconds worth of copying done at a time . Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this? thanks!!

You may have to backup and restore your iphone for it to work again. I had a similar problem with it not charging and constantly dying. Ended up doing a full restore... =(
