iPad locked out SOS

First post please help, pressed for time to finish work on my old iPad mini. It all of a sudden went out. When it came back it requested my recently changed icloud password, which I don't have for reactivation, and I'm locked out, .
I went to the Apple page from my Android. I tried to reset the password. I clicked on not having my iPad, I provided my apple ID, it seemed to work with me, then it said for me to my icloud mail, which I need the password for! SOS please!
