ios 10.0.2 denies access to photos and videos by any program but itunes.

[iMore Question]

I am used to downloading my pictures and videos from my iPhone 6 to my Windows 10 desktop. I have not figured out how to have itunes simply do this. Syncing involves many changes to my iPhone and/or pc.
Any suggestions?
