If I delete pictures on my iPad will they disappear from my Mac too?

if i delete pictures on my iPad will they disappear from my Mac, too?

My desktop Mac and iPad are aparently synced. All my photos from iPhoto go to th eiPad, too. I want to clear the iPad to have more space for NEW photos on a special vacation. Don't want to lose the pics on my HOME computer. Please HELP!
