iCloud Drive Files Limitations

When trying to add Documents folder and Desktop to iCloud Drive, I get an error:
"Your Documents and Desktop folders cannot be stored on iCloud Drive.
You have too many files, too many files in a single folder, or too many nested folders in your Documents or Desktop folders."

Question: What are the limitations for nesting and file numbers?

Here is some information about using the iCloud Drive from Apple Support. Perhaps the file sizes exceed the limits described in the article. You might need to pay for extra space.

You're only given 5 gigs of iCloud storage for free. If you are storing more than that you'll either have to pay or remove files to get below 5 gigs.
