I am trying to watch a movie on my Ipad using the netflix or amazon app and the voices are well ahead of the image.

Pause the feed and let the buffer catch up. After a few minutes the buffer should be caught up and mostly in sync. Also make sure to use corded headphones or the built in speakers. There could be lag using wireless speakers or BT.
