How can I sync a Google Calendar on my iPhone?

I manage a constantly changing google calendar i wish to share with a large group of people, so i picked up the .ics link to the calendar and sent it to everyone so they could add it to their iphone as a "subscribed" calendar. Problem is the calendar does not automatically update.
Should I consider using another method? (this needs to be simple for people to add it)

Pretty sure Google has a Calendar App for iOS. Probably the cleanest way to work with them ;-)

Go to Settings >Mail, Contacts and Calendar >Gmail> Toggle on Calendar.

Note: I tried the new Google Calendar app, but did not like it. The stock works fine with Google.
