Apple Speakers Won't Work with 3G iphone

anybody aware of this issue? I bought the white Apple "box" speaker for use with ipod touch last year; bought the 3g phone a month ago and get dialogue box saying it is not compatible and not charging.

would appreciate feedback.

The iPhone 3G no longer has a Firewire pin in its dock connector, which is what a lot of older accessories used as a way to charge iPod's and the original iPhone 2G.

Since that pin is no longer there, the iPhone 3G won't charge with those accessories.

However, new, USB-pin charging accessories will likely come out to replace them.

Bad news for people with the old stuff, but technology marches on...
