Apple ID

I'm trying to get away from all things google and use iCloud for my email, and iTunes won't let me change my contact address from my google address to a domain apple owns.

Am I missing something, or is that really how is?

Your AppleID can't be an Apple email address... and the primary email address can't be an Apple address... keep the google for stuff like this... and as a throwaway for web forms, etc...

I think your Apple ID is set. So if you used abc@gmail.com as your id and made purchases you need to keep it that way. You are however able to change the email associated with the ID.

That doesn't allow me to use a .me or .icoud.com address. I don't mind keeping my gmail address if I can change the address used for itunes receipts. Thank you for your help.
