Any way to display messages, calender, etc on single screen?

Any way to display messages, calendar, etc on single screen?

I came over to iPhone from a BB, so I am used to being able to see my message count, and the next few calendar events on one screen. I am already pretty frustrated with the seeming inefficiency of the email situation, but I guess I can live with it. i am worried that I will miss some upcoming event on my calendar because it only displays stuff when I go in and look at it. Or at least I have never seen a reminder pop up yet.
