There is a very funny reason for this. Apparently Apple designed the update so it would start on 3/19/2024, that 10% of devices would be updated by 3/26/2024, 25% by 4/2/2024, and all by 4/9/2024. Except instead of "2024" they put "24" in the date limits and since 3/19/2024 was ~2000 years after the 4/9/24 limit for all devices, every single AirTag was updated as soon as they saw the firmware rather than wait.

See for that detail.
Even better 😅

This is why I always use YYYY-MM-DD as a date format, which is the recommended notation per the government, as it is understandable for both English and French speakers. It also avoids this typo by having a 4 digit year.

Edit: YYYY-MM-DD also avoids confusing dates such as 9/10/2024 and 10/9/2024 (the first being in October and the second in September in international English).

And here I thought Apple was finally getting their act together with these long drawn out rolling firmware updates. Silly me for thinking otherwise. So basically their coding error benefited us for the first and probably only time. Well back to praying to the firmware gods we go for the next update

I don't like it. I've been using mm/dd/year my entire 71 years with no issues. Not about to change now. And I hate when a widget app puts it as dd/mm/year. I also do money like $100. That's how I've done it all my life.
And I still use BC and AD. LOL
