I have a 2012 non-retina 13" entry level. The only thing I've upgrade has been the RAM, to 8Gb.

Would it be silly of me to buy the 2015 rMBP?

The reason I want to get a new machine is that I don't think I am ready for the dongle life. So my logic is, if I buy the 2015 MBP now I can keep it for 4 years. And in 2020 there should be plenty of USB-C devices.

I do not live in the USA and do not have access to Refurb models. I will probably spend $2000 a MBP, the 13" model with 16Gb RAM and 512Gb SSD. Preferably I'd like to spend 2200 on a 15" model to at least get quad core.

Again, how silly is this?

There is very little wrong with my current machine. I would like a speed bump though. Mostly for recreational Photoshop (wacom illustrations) and Lightroom work.

You're making sense and some very valid points. Given everything you said, the 15" makes perfect sense. It will help with processing large files in PS & LR. And if you're not prepared for the dongle life, I say go for it. And it will certainly last you 4 years at least, if not more. Please let us know what you decide to do. Thanks!

If its just for general Web Browsing, working on Microsoft Office, casual photo editing and things like that.

The 2015 13" would be absolutely fine. Don't think it would be worth the cash upping to a Quad-core processor.

You could also try invest in a SSD. That will definitely speed thing up quite a lot. Maybe a Samsung 850 Evo or PRO

Thanks for all the help/tips.

I have decided to buy the Macbook Pro

MacBook Pro 13-inch - Silver
? 2.7GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
? 16GB 1866MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM
? 512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage
? Intel Iris Graphics 6100
? Force Touch trackpad
? Backlit Keyboard (Int'l English) / User's Guide (English

It will cost me just under $2000

The most important part of this purchase is the 512gb ssd and the 16gb RAM. I will not be able to afford a new mac with these specs. This machine will surely be able to last me a good while.

regards

Follow up.

Just recieved my new MBP 2015. Forgot that you also get the little cloth you do'nt get with the 2016 version.

Didn't know the 2015 version's keyboard was different than the 2012's. Very nice.

Will also post here how it goes with running FCP.
