iphone 3GS Jailbreak re-sets after reboot

Hi, I have successfully jailbrocken my iphone 3GS firmware 3.1.2, however after installing cydia everything is working fine, the minute I turn off the iphone and restart it again, everything is lost and wants to connect with itunes to restore back to factory settings. I have done this several times and each time I turn off the device I have to do a full restore. I used blackra1n to jailbreak, any suggestions?
