My iPhone 5 is not erasing. It keeps saying verification failed or it does nothing. Now what?

I have followed the directions to erase...but after I input the password, it either does nothing OR says that "verification failed." Now what?

It may be an issue with the servers. If your iCloud credentials are ok, thrn try waiting until late at night. Or several days.
