What do I do first when activating iPhone

I ordered iPhone 4 to replace my daughters Envg but I had to use the upgrade from my wife's line. I am pretty sure the first thing that must be done out of the box is hooking it up to her computer.

Then what:
1. to deactivate her old phone
2. get the iPhone over to her nr
3. get my wife's line reactivated

I transferred the upgrade from one to the other but they are shipping it with my wife's nr. Do not understand why.

I would:

1. Hook it up to the computer and that will activate it (it should activate it on the new line, but you said it came with a different number.)
2. Call VZW and switch the phones. They should be able to tell you. That is one thing the VZW can actually handle, simple operations.
