Contact photos not appearing consistently.

Hi. Love my iPhone 3gs. I have one problem and I was wondering if anyone had experienced the same problem, or can reproduce it.

I took 3 photos with my iPhone and assigned them to 3 contacts.

They do not appear consistently when I send or receive a call to/from them. When they do appear they are full screen, as intended. When they do not appear the default "earth" wallpaper appears.

Any ideas? I did search the forums, but did not find anything.
