iphone 3g, works when plugged in. Loops unplugged?

I have a 3g and if it is hooked up to the PC it works but when you unplug it goes into a loop that only shows the apple logo. any ideas?

i did a restore and it still did it, Was going to upgrade to the latest firmware but hard to jail break when the power button is broke.

any help would be great thanks!!!
