Lost everything

My father upgraded his iPhone 4 to iOS5. He says it backed everything up as part of the upgrade process, however all his photos, contacts, messages and apps are gone. I tried restoring from backup - there were two available backup files to choose from, and neither of them restored the missing data. Any help?

My device did this as well. After I did the restore the phone had nothing on it. I went thru all my settings in itunes and made sure that all my apps, music, photos, etc. were still selected as normal and did a typical sync and everything came back after the sync.

go through your itunes library and sync what you want.. my guess is he hit the restore button which wipes the device instead of update..

You should have all your information stored in your itunes library.. apps music etc contacts should be synced with a program on your computer
