clicked on iCloud beta from my photo app and all my stored photos disappeared.

Not many details to add. I lost my old iPad somewhere in the Detroit airport, bought a new iPad and all notes, contacts and photos came up when I started the new iPad. While perusing the photos an iCloud beta icon popped up. I clicked it thinking that backing stuff up would be good idea and suddenly all previously stored photos were gone. I'm seriously desperate.

Reboot your iPad. Your photos should still be present on the device. You can also login to the iCloud website via a computer and select the Photos app to view any photos that you did not delete.
