How do I delete a photo I receive via a text message?

My friend sent me a picture from her photo album in chat and when I swiped to the right and then went back into chat it was still there. I've tried various things to get rid of it like making sure I didn't save Blocking my friend and deleting them, and also logging out. still the picture comes up but it doesn't come up on my friends phone. How do I delete it?

Press & hold the pic until you see "more", select it & hit the trash can at the bottom of your screen.
