youtube not publishing from ipad

I took a short video with my Ipad mini, tried to upload it to Youtube, it appears to be loading but after a while it tells me Youtube can't publish it..what am I doing wrong? Do I have to convert the video and if so how do I find out what format the video is in?

Do you have a You Tube Acct? Is it in the right format? You might want to go to their FAQ and read about what you have to do to upload your video.
