Changing a contact who used to have an iphone

I have a friend who used to have an iphone but now has a HTC, but my iphone keeps trying to send imessages, and not SMS, so he does not get them, i have tried deleting him and re-entering but i cant make it change any ideas?

Doing what you said should work and of course when you put him back in make sure next to his number you change it from iPhone to Phone. Should not make that much difference but you are doing the right thing short of deleting, restart your phone then re add.

If you attempt to send someone an iMessage and I mean if anyone does and that person does not have an IOS device your IOS device knows this and would send it anyway in green being an SMS text and not blue iMessage.

When your friend switched phones, he didn't turn off iMessage or reset his device. This causes the system to still think iMessage is active. If he still has the phone, he can deactivate this feature or you can wait it out. It'll usually work itself out in a week or so.

I've had a quite a few contacts switch from iPhone to Android and I didn't have to do anything.
