Forgotten iPad password - how can I recover it?

Forgotten iPad password - help!

So I've had the same iPad passcode for years (since I bought it about 2ish years ago). I stupidly changed it for security reasons but now I can't remember what I changed it to. The last time I backed it up was in 2013 (yes I know how stupid that is, but I hardly use it so didn't think it was important).

Is there a way to to get into my iPad without remembering my passcode and without losing data? I can't remember what's on there that I haven't backed up, I'm only worried about the photos I haven't saved. When I plug it into iTunes it doesn't come up....

I'm up to it locked for 60 minutes when I put in the wrong passcode (not sure how many tried I have left!). Please help!!

No. You are going to have to reset it via iTunes in order to reset the lock screen passcode.

The only other way to get past it is to do a hard reset by hooking up to a computer and doing a restore.

But if I restore it, won't it restore from my last back up which was in 2013?
Plus my computer isn't recognising it when I plug it in, why would that be?

how many attempts do i have before it locks me out for good? i might be able to guess it if i have a few goes but i've already tried about 10 times (maybe not quite that much, can't remember)

I believe the magic number is SIX.

must be on 6 now then :straight-face:
i haven't tried in a while but just got it out now and tried again and it locked me out for 60 mins... so frustrating

Make a genius bar appointment with the nearest Apple Store and have them fix the problem for you, if applicable.

If it's a 4 digit code, you have 10,000 guesses. It doesn't take as long as one might think. Many can be eliminated early.

you have 6 guesses... where on earth did you get 10,000 from? mine is locked out for good
