photostream missing on ios 10

Hi! I recently lost my iPhone SE to water damage and had to go back to using my old 5, which wasn't a huge problem because all of the photos on the SE were on the photo stream and still accessible on my 5. Without thinking properly I updated the iPhone 5 to ios 10, before getting a chance to backup the photos. Now I can no longer find these photo stream photos, there's no folder labeled such on the iphone 5, nor on icloud online. Is there anyway I can get these photos back?

Enable Upload to My Photo Stream in Settings > Photos & Camera.
If all is well your pictures should reappear in the photo stream album on your iPhone.
