I installed ITunes 8.0 as the first step to upgrading to 2.2, and now Itunes does not recognize the IPhone. It willl transfer pictures, but nothing else.
I've done the following at least once, sometimes twice, in an effort to fix the problem:
1. Downloaded 8.0
2. Restarted the computer
3. Cleared settings on Iphone
4. Restarted phone holding on/off and home button
5. Used different USB ports.
6. Tried downloading previous version of ITunes (no go)

Hello,

I had this issue as well.
Environment: Windows Vista, iPhone G3, iTunes 8.0.2
This last iTunes update is the first time I've seen this issue.

Final solution that worked:
Renamed iTunes music folder and moved it out of iTunes directory.
Uninstalled iTunes, Apple Mobile Devices, Apple Installer, and Quicktime.
Deleted iTunes folder from User <your login account> Music.
Made sure iTunes directory deleted from Program Files.
Searched for and deleted all .itl files (iTunes Library Files), included the one's in my now renamed and moved iTunes music folder.
Rebooted PC
Googled for, downloaded and installed a 7.7 version of iTunes (said it was minimum required version for iPhone).
Imported my music from renamed directory.

This may seem like a lot to do, but I spent hours arriving at this conclusion. Sad but true.

I had to re-install all my programs this week including iTunes. When I did the first sync of my iPhone, I had to go through that tabs on the sync page and select all the options again. It might also work better if you delete the old version of iTunes and then install the updated version. Not sure if this will help, but it's worth a try.
