Why does my Google calendar show correctly online but not on iPad?

google calendar shows correctly online but not on ipad

I am sharing my calendar with another person. I want them to see "busy" and no detail. It looks perfect when they log into their google calendar account online -- but on the ipad it shows either nothing or, if the calendar is set up as an account, it shows all the detail (obviously). They received the message that they have been invited to see the calendar and that it was automatically added to the calendar -- but there's no syncing to the ipad or iPhone.

If you're using the native Calendar app, try downloading and then using the Google Calendar app from the App Store and see if it displays on your iPad in the manner it does on Google's website.
