My I phone was completely submerged in a Lake I activated the replacement before I erased the content on the damaged I phone, I'm afraid that if I do it now it will erase the content on the replacement.

Erasing the old phone will not erase the content on your new device.

If the old phone was completely submerged, it's likely you couldn't erase it anyway... if it does power up, you can go into settings and erase all content and settings... that will have ZERO impact on the replacement phone.
