Why aren't my iPad alert tones audible?

iPad alert tones not audible

Have checked all ringer, volume and settings and all are on...still no alerts sounds heard. Sound is audible in videos.

Is the switch above the volume buttons switched such that there's a reddish orange color visible? Flip the switch...
